It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.
At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

I chuckled at this picture. I'm sure it has merit and value and all that...
I'm sure it does.
This just seems sorta like those picture you see people taking of themselves, arms outstretched, when they are in front of [famous landmark]. This is the Curiosity version of that... Taking a picture of himself, on Mars. "Hi NASA!"

One of the NASA guys was talking about how earth-like and comfortable Mars seemed from these pics, and I have to agree. It really does look like someplace you could just pop up a few bases and set up shop just like we do at the poles here on Earth.

Nice! Can't wait to see some more full color shots. I remember sitting at my computer and just staring at the first full color shots from pathfinder and being completely blown away.
Looking at those pictures of the nearby hills... is it just me or does it look like they cut that really close? If they had been a little more off course and the rover had come down on those hill it seems like it could have caused all sorts of problem. Or maybe they're just not as close to as they look.

What's the ambient temperature where Curiosity is?

Its the same thing as taking a picture of oneself on a long-distance trip and sending it back home to reassure the parents. "Look mom, I'm okay. Really. I'm fine. My stuff is fine. It's actually not to far off from that. Curiosity has a twitter account and he's been sending updates and jokes out....Unagi wrote:(first, thanks for sharing the pictures you are finding)msduncan wrote:High rez shot of the rover deck (click to enlarge)

I found this 360 degree interactive, color, hi-res panorama to be absolutely mind-blowing.

Mars is hard
whoa.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

For some reason, seeing the Sun in the sky awed me the most. I wonder if Curiosity's camera can get any night sky shots. It would be so amazing to see the Earth rising above a Martian horizon.

Oh neat, if you visit that panorama on an iPad you can move your view by moving your iPad around. A magic little window to another world.

Awe fading...but as long as it's an accurate representation using an actual image from Mars, I won't cry foul.Mookee wrote:Sun was added from a diff pic so kind of semi-a-little fakish, but still cool (5th paragraph or so):Kraken wrote:For some reason, seeing the Sun in the sky awed me the most.

By the time we actually get somebody up there to retrieve it, Curiosity will have become a "classic" and be worth triple the original sticker price.Kraken wrote:Limbering up

Umm, you do realize that's a joke and not something anyone at NASA made, right? As the comments note it was clearly filmed in Seattle's outdoor mall.
