And one thing that I really found fun and original about The Witcher was the basis in Slavic mythology rather than the usual blend of Celtic and Germanic. It is a lot less... watered down.

Re: Witcher series by Netflix
So I got the first book in the Witcher series. I only made it 104 pages. I do know the first book is a collection of stories stitched together, but who in their right mind starts a series at the second book?
The writing was not bad, but I strongly suspect its due to translation, you can tell sometimes that things have not been described just right, or there was some prose that just isn't coming across correctly.
The Character is as I surmised. He is better than everyone else at everything all the time. Which is good for a video game, but not that much good for a book.
I did enjoy the alternate monsters. I am familiar with some of them from the "Thea: The Awakening" game.
Bu it was some of the other content which forced me to put the book down in disgust. I was already aware that every woman in the world wants to sleep with Geralt because he is better than everybody else at everything including sleeping with women, so that wasn't surprising to me. What I objected to was the rampant amount of rape, prostitution, misogyny, and pedophilia in every story. Maybe its not that prominent on later stories, but i don't care to push on through and find out.
I suppose if Netflix wants to be like Game of Thrones, then they need to keep all that.

At least Henry looks good as Geralt after all. The girls are passable for a tv show. I mean in looks compared to games. I have no idea how anyone acting will come across. I know Henry doesn't have the games gruff sounding voice.

It is based on the books, not the games. The games weren't accurate to the books, so don't expect the show to match the games. That said, they're probably going to try to give a little bit of the games' flavor to appeal to the people who only the know that version of the characters.

I hope they spontaneously break into song and dance at odd times. That would be fun. Oh, and that they include a mischievous monkey who’s always hiding in Geralt’s saddle bags, only to spring out at inopportune moments.
Yeah...that’s the show I want.

Probably hanging out on Roach where it belongs. He never carries two in the books (or at least the stories I've read). Instead, the silver sword is busted out when he's hunting a specific monster. I'm guessing the game designers figured it would be easier/quicker to just have him carrying two around all the time.
Quoted for posterity. So you can come back in here and apologize after watching the show.

Still think Cavill doesn't nearly look gruff enough for the part in those photos. And man, they changed his medallion.

It's been a while since I've read them, but I don't remember it being described in detail beyond a 'round wolf medallion.'

It's probably just because I've spent so much time with the games and the images of those characters are burned into my brain, but every one of these casting choices just feels...wrong. Not "OMG, what the hell were they thinking?" wrong, but more "I just don't really see it working" wrong.
I'm hoping Netflix can pull off something special with this series, but everything I've seen so far feels like a big ol pile of meh.

Read the books. He only ever wears one sword. As for the other one, I would assume that it is attached to the saddlebags on the other side of the horse.
Now... if we get to see both sides of the horse, and there is still only the sword that he is wearing, then I will join you in calling "foul".

Re: Witcher series by Netflix
I guess my big question is, how good does this look for someone who's read the books? Because quite frankly, I think a majority of people have been introduced to the series via the games and I don't think the series of books would be quite as popular if it weren't for the games, especially the 3rd one, and I can't help but feel like there's going to be a lot of confused and disappointed people when it ends up looking completely different from what they've come to experience through the games.

I found the cuts confusing, didn't think Ciri looked much like Ciri, found Yennifer to sorta look like a drug addicted Yennifer, and have no idea if I saw Triss at all in that trailer.
But Im from the games not the books.
And I think it will be good and that Henry will own it.

Team Triss is probably not going to like it:
Triss also does not appear to be as major a character as in the game per this description:
The emphasis seems to be on Yennefer and Ciri.“Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts,” Netflix said. “But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”

And as far as I know, Dandelion is named differently in the books (as is hinted at in the first game) and is one of my favourite characters in the game, so I hope his character ends up in the series in whatever incarnation.
I guess this can't be any worse than the Polish Hexer series, right? Right? I hear that one was pretty bad.

Probably. But they already said they're going to use his name from the books (Jaskier) not the name in the English translations and/or video game (Dandelion).

Re: Witcher series by Netflix
His Polish name, "Jaskier", literally translates as "buttercup". So in English, the translators named him after a more "masculine" flower.
I didn't mind the Polish series. They were okay for what they were: a made-for-TV 2-hour movie that was then expanded into a 13-episode TV series.
