I had just read Michio Kaku's book, Quantum Supremacy, and that made this book more understandable as it does deal with quantum theory. I highly recommend going this route.

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
not only do they blow through the first book (in record time) in this first series, they get a good start on the second and include a portion of the third...

A series, but since it is on netflix, better wait until they completed the whole series before start watching. They're known to cancel fantasy/sci-fi series after 1-2 seasons.

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
related to my post above: but if all one cares about is the first book (and i know a number of people that read the first one and not the rest of the series), then that's already been covered and completed in this first season.Victoria Raverna wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:50 amA series, but since it is on netflix, better wait until they completed the whole series before start watching. if one wants the excruciatingly long adaptation, go with the Chinese TV series

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
Just finished this last night and really enjoyed it. Didn't read the books and had no idea what it was about. Didn't have any problems following the story or the premise, though it did require full attention given some of the subtle elements or discussions that explained what was happening. I don't know if I'll read the books, but I definitely want to see more of this show.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
We're two episodes from the end and enjoying it a lot. Smartly written, creative take on an old sf trope. It took me a while to draw the lines between the 1970s characters and their current selves, but I did sort it out. I'm often slow in that regard.Smoove_B wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 10:12 am Just finished this last night and really enjoyed it. Didn't read the books and had no idea what it was about. I had given up on it after two episodes because a few folks seemed to say it wasn't worth it. But it sounds like I should give it a go after all.

Mildly worth staying to the end, but often seems like a plot in search of a movie.

Netflix added a line to the menu screen saying it's officially renewed for a second season.Victoria Raverna wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:50 amA series, but since it is on netflix, better wait until they completed the whole series before start watching. I'd say so, yeah. Plus it does have a rather spiritual/religious element to it as well (sorta) - which I thought made sense. Overall I thought it felt plausible, in terms of what might happen.

...and just to make sure, no Wahlberg, right? Cause you got me when you lied and said he wasn't in Fallout.

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
This was more or less my take. I maybe thought there was a little more payoff than you, Jaymann, but I was more in the “liked it” than the “loved it” camp. Still, looking forward to see what they do with Season 2. I’ll definitely give it a shot!

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
No Wahlberg. It does have a fairly sizable number of actors from Game of Thrones, however. Fun to see them in different roles.
I'll put it this way. If you like hard sci-fi in general, including something imaginative, you'll likely be in for a good time. It's something that manages to feel fresh.

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
i even watched it on my own, which is hard to accomplish. several of the latter episodes were pretty ok. they depicted the horror of [end of episode 5] in a way that i felt the book completely lacked, and [one of the main characters] actually reacted appropriately towards. (the book actually seemed , if i remember correctly)

Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
That scene left me scratching my head. I just didn’t get it. How on earth was that the best possible way for them to address that situation? Seemed absurd, and, honestly, the series kind of lost me there.hitbyambulance wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 2:18 pm i even watched it on my own, which is hard to accomplish. several of the latter episodes were pretty ok. they depicted the horror of [end of episode 5] in a way that i felt the book completely lacked, and [one of the main characters] actually reacted appropriately towards. Re: [Netflix] 3 Body Problem
Setting aside the loss of innocent lives, the part that had you questioning things was the same part that had me questioning things. There was no way they could hope that the goal of the operation would actually survive the operation! Seemed like a huge plot hole to me. Maybe it was addressed in the books (which I haven’t read).
