Government MP busted with thousands of sex videos on the eve of the election. Government blames the “democrats” (Congress party) for politicising the situation. The Mp himself claims it’s all Ai and a conspiracy.

Expect to see that strategy imported here soon. Oh wait.

I think it important to clarify that by 'sex videos', the article means videos of him sexually assaulting women. He isn't getting flak just for having a porn collection.

I miss Tareeq/Patrick. He would have thoughts and would be ripping people to shreds for anything remotely defending or deflecting from Noem in that unique Tareeq fashion.

The puppy gaffe reminds me of the Gary Hart "Monkey Business" fiasco where a seemingly viable candidate was eliminated by one stupid act.

It’s funny how one candidate can be eliminated because they eat a dessert badly or fall up some stairs but another can stage a coup, openly discuss assaulting women, demand he be made dictator and refuse to accept election defeat and still lead in the polls.

I think it's that Americans hate government and laws because they aren't freedom, and Democrats are the ones who actually govern and (usually) obey laws.

What's wild about Puppygate is that it was intentional.

In the past, a politician's career-wrecking gaffe would be a slip or an accident or a spur-of-the-moment thing, or else it would be the discovery of something the pol tried to hide.

But Noem proudly walked into this. Presumably the production of the book took months, and it involved a ghost-writer and an editor and paid staffers prepping for the rollout. Yet somehow they all thought KILLING HER PET DOG would be a good look.

Gary Peterson, an account known for posting parody content, posted a photo of Lindell at a rally for Donald Trump on Twitter.
However, the image is likely a prank, as Peterson is a well-known parody artist. A vocal Trump critic, Peterson often mocks the former president and his allies in his paintings.

Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife allegedly took nearly $600,000 in bribes, indictment says
Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas and his wife have been charged with accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities, according to an indictment in federal court in Texas.

The alleged scheme took place from late 2014 through at least November 2021, the indictment says.

The congressman and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, made their initial court appearance on Friday in Houston and were released on a $100,000 bond. They are facing several charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery of a federal official, violating the ban on public officials acting as agents of a foreign principal and money laundering.
...
Prosecutors say that Henry and Imelda Cuellar crafted two yearslong schemes to get bribes from foreign entities – an oil and gas company “wholly owned and controlled by the Government of Azerbaijan, and a bank headquartered in Mexico City.”

In exchange for bribe payments from the Azerbaijan oil company, Cuellar “agreed to perform official acts in his capacity as a Member of Congress, to commit acts in violation of his official duties, and to act as an agent of the Government of Azerbaijan” and the bank, the indictment says.

Among those promises, prosecutors allege Cuellar agreed to influence US policy through a “series of legislative measures relating to Azerbaijan’s conflict with neighboring Armenia,” by giving a pro-Azerbaijani speech on the House floor, inserting language “favored by Azerbaijan” into legislation and committee reports, and advocating for “series of legislative measures relating to Azerbaijan’s conflict with neighboring Armenia.”

The Texas Democrat also allegedly promised to influence financial regulations in a way that would benefit the Mexican bank and its affiliates, including by working to pressure the Executive Branch on anti-money laundering enforcement practices that “threatened” their business interest and supporting revisions to the criminal money-laundering statutes.

What a trainwreck-

"Through my tenure on the House Armed Services Committee, I had the chance to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders -- some who wanted our help, and some who didn't. I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. I'm sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I'd been a children's pastor, after all),"

People slogging to the end of Noem's book are now pointing to a line where she says one of the first things to do in 2025 is to get Biden's dog Commander out of the White House. Except she styles it as "Commander, meet Cricket," clearly imagining Biden's dog being killed like she killed hers (Cricket).

Along with the clearly false North Korea anecdote, she has told interviewers that these episodes in the book were only just recently brought to her attention (implying that they were slipped into the manuscript by the ghost-writer). Unfortunately, before the shitstorm blew up, she had already recorded the audiobook in her own voice, meaning that none of this can possibly be a surprise to her now.

What an asshole.

I assume a lot of this is intended to raise her chances of being picked as Trump's VP nominee. Though I'm confused a bit by the "oh I didn't know about all of this" stuff in that scenario.

All of this absolutely trashes her chance of being Trump's VP. She is dumb enough to believe that a folksy account of killing her family's pet dog would make her look tougher than Nikki or Marco or Elise or whomever, but she somehow didn't foresee any backlash.

Turned off the morning news when CNBC puts a negative spin on corporations threatening to withhold political contributions in light of current RNC, when not two years ago they were more excited about how corporations were getting moral with DEI and people doing things like stopping drinking Bud Light not two years ago.

I don't know. I think there's an "any news is good news" aspect to getting Trump's personal attention, and it's not like Trump is going to think less of her for shooting her dog (probably, I guess there's an outside chance that Trump is a rabid dog-lover or something). And she could use it to pick a fight with the mainstream media, which would be a plus for Trump (and much of the GOP base).

On the other hand, if that was the plan then I don't think she would say "whoopsies don't know how that got in there", it'd be more "the liberal elites don't know what us folksy real Americans do".

I'm surprised that she is walking it back. It speaks to ultimate freedom, no matter how deplorable. That's kind of the MAGA thing. I can do WHATEVER I want...even if it's technically illegal, because I should be able to.

But for all his idiocy, Trump is *extremely* media-savvy. He knows that Noem shot herself in the foot and that her blood's in the water.

When has he ever stuck by anyone when he might benefit from throwing them under the bus?

It's so disappointing to see evangelicals falling in line with one of the most un-Christian men ever to hold the office of the presidency. Have a neighbor I talk to on the regular when we're out dog walking. I knew he was really religious but he's a nice guy and we've never talked religion or politics.

Walked by the other day and he's flying a giant TRUMP 2024 banner in his garage. :grund:
