Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
Kyle Beach is asserting the whole locker room knows what happened, including the only remaining players from that team, Toews and Kane. Both are being weasally about their knowledge at that time.

I think the Hawks will unveil their new slogan today: "Putting the 'O' in October."
Unless the Coyotes already beat the to it.

Chicago Blackhawks 2010 Roster. Posted as the perception was that this team had leadership up and down the lineup ... but maybe that's an automatic attribute of a Cup champion.
Beach had also said that he faced "where's your boyfriend?" taunts. I can only assume that this was on the ice and means that there was knowledge at the AHL level amongst opposing teams. A bit tough to deny your NHL locker room knew when the pro league one tier down did.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
That roster has at least 2, maybe 3, HoF candidates (I'd make a case for Duncan Keith). Leadership was present, but maybe chose to look the other way?
All three were present in the 2013 cup team (I honestly don't remember Kyle Beach at all). According to MHS, my son was named subliminally from one of the players on the team (and the best American-born player since Bobby Orr).

Also it's doubtful you would remember Kyle Beach because he never played a game for the Blackhawks.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
Is this a good time to point out that I learned over the weekend that that the 3-owners-ago owner of the house we moved into last month was Stan Bowman? And that Patrick Kane lived in the basement for a while after he signed his contract at age 17?
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
If only the Hawk's didn't suck right now, you might be able to market that...
When the Hawk's won the 2013 cup, my son was born and was named Patrick. His middle name (Canete) led MHS to suggest we named him after Patrick Kane (MVP of the finals). My wife went with it and to this day claims that was his origin story. My sister, Patricia, thought we named him after her. In reality, I knew it was a Filipino custom to name kids after Catholic Saints, and I figured that was an acceptable pandering to her religion. None of my friends had kids named Patrick, so that was safe. Wife originally suggested naming him after my recently-deceased father, but Clarence isn't exactly a popular name. However, one of the maternity ward nurses was named Clarence (and SHE was a Filipino to boot) but she wasn't actually present when he was born. Wife got her way naming our daughter after my then recently deceased mother, Charlotte.

Poor Rangers, getting toasted by McDavid in the leader in the clubhouse for goal of the year on Friday, and then getting roasted by more Matt Tkachuk between the legs nonsense the next night to cap off a 6-0 blowout loss.

That's a new one to me! I've seen them flipped in from back there off the back of the netminder's bucket, but never setting up a baseball style strike.

You can still get good odds on Zegras winning the Calder Trophy if you're into that sort of thing.

Covid breaking through teams. Believe that the difference between teams and leagues in the short term will be that Canada has just approved booster shots whereas America is ~ a month ahead in access.

15 players entering COVID protocol today. It's a total mess, game postponements are starting up again. One of Colorado's best D-men is out and is symptomatic, so it's not just "contact tracing".

It’s all sports right now. 65 newly out in the NFL. One wonders what numbers would be like for the rest of us were we to get tested for it multiple times a week.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
The Calgary Flames currently have 16 players, 3 coaches, and 7 staffers in Covid protocols. I have no idea when they'll play a game again.

It's 18 players now for the Flames. From what I've heard, it's the Omicron variant that's going through the team.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
Ontario just capped arena capacity at 50% for their NBA and NHL games.
Quebec just banned all spectators entirely.
NBA and NHL are starting to have trouble staffing referees for games.
I mostly pay attention to Avalanche and whoever they are playing, and they are "lucky" to only have 4 players in COVID protocol - the number everyone expects to balloon after tonight. They are playing Nashville Predators, who have 6 players and pretty much their entire coaching staff in protocol.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
That was just so beyond fucked up. Also, according to the Altitude broadcasting crew, everyone in the building - including the Predators announcers - were sure that the call should have been on the Preds. Short of the ref outright mistaking the linesman for an Avs player, any other explanation (and some have been attempted since last night) requires an Olympic-level of mental gymnastics.

This recap of the Avalanche loss to the Stars last night is worth it if for nothing more than the fun they have with the Jake Oettinger graphic.

Considering Colorado has only lost 13 games total, that's quite remarkable.

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
Yeah, Avalanche just weren't good in last night's game at all, from the goalie on down. Still, they are the only team with single-digit regulation losses (9) this season. I guess will have to see how they do against Vegas Golden Knights tonight, another matchup that has never been favorable for us.

The Flames lost to Montreal earlier this year, so it could always get worse!

Re: NHL 2021-22 Season
Strange but fun evening in the NHL for me, as my Hawks and Avs notched three hat tricks (Kane, Hagel, Landeskog) and very nearly had a fourth (MacKinnon finished with two goals and two extreme near-misses). Avs win 6-3 after going down 0-3, and Hawks win 8-5.
Crazy fun.
