Phil Spencer just on CNBC. All about Game Pass and next gen release. Cloud streaming service to allow gameplay cross platform, including on mobile.
Says no changes to Zenimax/Bethesda.

MS has always hated or ruined PC gaming so I see no chance of that happening.

First thing I thought was Fallout/Doom games using the same tech as the new Flight Simulator except ground based and using some kind of machine learning tool(on their end) to add a post apocalyptic layer of paint to everything.

Agreed, but the Xbox exclusives (and timed exclusives) pale in comparison to PS.Lorini wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:47 amAnd Game Pass is exactly why I won't be The PS equivalent is crappy.
I can always play the next Elder Scrolls on my PC, but there ain't no way I'd wait a year to play Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox.

Yeah, but it's a lot harder to piss away $7.5B after buying one the leading developers in existence.

They were. I'm not sure about current. Regardless, if anyone can buy a development studio and drive it head-first into the ground, it's Microsoft.

Here's where they announce the next Elder Scrolls is an XBox exclusive and pisses off their fanbase.
But good news is that maybe they'll now make a Dragon Flying Simulator mode as part of Flight Simulator

Sony losing Doom, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout would be pretty huge. Interesting news. I would guess this makes my hope for a Dishonored 3 even less likely.

Yeah I don't care about the Japanese exclusive PS games so it's all good for me. Yeah Sony would be very angry if the Bethesda library required you to run some version of a Microsoft OS.

Given Bethesda's practices lately (especially in relation to Fallout 76), I'm not sorry to see someone new at the helm.

I see people online saying stuff about its worrisome for ES6 because MS makes stuff unmoddable. And mods are what make ES worth having.

They have to figure out how to make Flight Simulator work without patches completely breaking it as a first step.

If I was running things for MS I'd release the Doom games for the new Playstation but they would all have Playstation 1 graphics.

Come to think of it, given that MS recently bought Obsidian and now Bethesda, maybe they're aiming to have some big RPGs on the console?

They certainly don’t get rid of mods. Java Minecraft still has thousands of mods available. I wouldn’t worry about that.

People keep saying that exclusives are better on Playstation - perhaps this is a way to counteract that.

Yeah, in particular, the Playstation certainly has a lot of RPGs, and I don't know how many the XBox has beyond the cross-platforms.

Re: Microsoft buys Zenimax/Bethesda for $7.5B
This is definitely part of it. Japan just pumps out a lot of RPGs in general but the difference is that it more of an ecosystem there (dominated by Square). Sony owns only a few development studios but they have enough soft influence and market share to lock in exclusives. Whereas Microsoft seems to be struggling on exclusives. I think the wake up call was when the Switch became the number 2 platform at the end of last year. That could have prompted a strategic re-think that led to the spending spree. It's a realignment and frankly I think it means they think they needed to change the marketplace to get market share back.

As primarily a Playstation player, this hurts. I don't really care much about any new Fallouts as I think Bethesda has sort of worn that formula into the ground, but presumably losing the next Elder Scrolls and future Obsidian games is rough. Assuming exclusivity, it might be enough to make me get an Xbox whenever those games come out. I guess that's exactly what Microsoft was hoping for!

Re: Microsoft buys Zenimax/Bethesda for $7.5B
I'm definitely not going to buy a console for a couple of studios. I'll just play those games on the PC. We'll see if this strategy pays off but I'm skeptical for now. PS has a dominant position and I don't expect that to slip over a couple of exclusives.Ralph-Wiggum wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 8:56 am As primarily a Playstation player, this hurts. By buying this that means MS will be publishing 2 Sony PS5 exclusives

Re: Microsoft buys Zenimax/Bethesda for $7.5B
I'm 100% sure it is. When you look at the exclusives list, there really is no comparison, imo. Sony has Final Fantasy, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, Last of Us, Uncharted, Bloodborne, Journey, Gran Turismo, etc. Microsoft has Gears of War and...um...
If MS can make Elder Scrolls 6 and new Obsidian RPG's exclusives (or even timed exclusives) there's a chance they can peel off some folks and convince them to buy an Xbox. If a new Elder Scrolls game was Xbox only and I didn't have PC as an option, I'd certainly have to consider it.

Re: Microsoft buys Zenimax/Bethesda for $7.5B
I have pretty much moved away from PC gaming over the last 10 years and I don't have nor plan to have a PC that will be able to run the newest games. So, for me, the exclusive games on the console are my main consideration in which console(s?) I buy. Since I'm not big on shooters, I've never really been tempted to get an XBox. This announcement and the potential exclusivity of Bethesda and Obsidian games has the chance to change that.malchior wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 9:03 amI'm definitely not going to buy a console for a couple of studios.
