I managed to get 34 (and now back to work).

I got a 54 on my first map, then a 43. Trending downward!

51 points on my first try, though I don't understand forests and I didn't see waves diagonally "near" problem until scoring.

For forests I have a group of 1 2 groups of 2 and one group of 3. To me that says 12 points but it only scored 9, which means I don't get groups. I suspect it didn't score my diagonally connected 2 as a group of 2.

I thought I was due 5 more points in total, but I screwed myself out of 2 finding a the wrong place for a wave and am trying to grasp the three I didn't get from the forest. I want to watch the scoring again, harumph.


But I dig it. This should be cross posted in the Friday time waster thread.

31, then 46. Second try I put together an 18 point forest, which was key.

56! So far I think forests are key - got 22 points on an island from a 12 point forest and a 10 point mountain together. Boats are also pretty great - can get a decent score from a couple well placed boats and some nearby waves.

I got up to 76 (already spending too much time on this).

But yeah, your map is similar to my current understanding of optimal strategy. Put a boat in a bottom corner, put a big island towards the top, use lots of forests and mountains. Plus putting beaches in nooks and between islands can get decent scoring.

Tried it, did not grasp island drawing mechanics for the first island draw. Many many things were sunk.

Scored 30 points, but lost 25 of those for 5 sunk things.

I may not be good at this game...
