Avengers: End Game
The end is here. And not just for the people planning to sit through the preceding 39-hour movie marathon.

They made us wait all this time, only to call it End Game?
Shame on them. I’m only going to see this three times in the theater now.

I know, right?
This flagrant irresponsibility has made me look to confirm the release date only *twice* today.
So disappointed.

Michelle is absolutely flipping out because of the brief scene with Renner as Ronin.

Re: Avengers: End Game
My favorite bit of the trailer, and a reminder why I liked the first part of the story was when Black Widow says Thanos did exactly what he said he'd do. That's rare for villains in movies. They all have diabolical plans but hardly ever follow through on those plans. It was refreshing to see Thanos...um, kill half of all life? That doesn't sound right.

It's funny - unlike many - I have loved both of the new Star Wars movies. But, I realized today that I am a MILLION times more excited for Avengers IV than Star Wars episode IX. A few years ago I would have never believed that to be possible.

Wait - Thanos killed 50% of all life, not just 50% of all intelligent life? Cause that would lead to some serious ecosystem meltdowns.

It would also be sorta stupid to kill off half the fish, crops, and livestock if ones goal was to increase the amount of resources available for the remaining 'intelligent life'.

Upon realizing this happened, Thanos exclaimed, "Oh, snap!", and thus accidentally eliminated yet another 50%.

Not to mention endangered species, who could ill afford to lose half their population.Ralph-Wiggum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 10:17 am Wait - Thanos killed 50% of all life, not just 50% of all intelligent life? Cause that would lead to some serious ecosystem meltdowns.

Re: Avengers: End Game
Also not to mention all the immediate additional deaths when pilots, drivers, doctors, and hundreds of thousands of other people who hold others lives in their hands suddenly turn to ash.
Followed by the likely longer term collapse of vital infrastructure, food supply, financial, and other global systems collapse due to the sudden loss of qualified personnel and workers.
Crime, especially violent crime, goes up as people struggle to cope with both personal loss alongside societal collapse.
Figure you probably lose 60-75% of the total pre-snap population in the first year.
And that's just on our planet...

What good is it if there are 1,000 acres of corn growing but no farmer there to harvest it? What good is it if there are 1,000 head of cattle on the ranch but no rancher there to feed them? Kill half of everything or go home, that's how Thanos rolls.

It would be giggle-shit worthy if Thanos discovered that he was part of "the wrong 50%".

But those that do survive are more enduring, stronger, and fitter. It works well with the theme of cutting back overgrowth to allow the rest to flourish.

Which makes perfect sense. Nature balances non-sentient life quite well. It's getting smart that breaks the rules and lets a species run amok.

semantics, but these days the term Sentient doesn't just mean 'human like intelligence'.
It means simply that they feel and think.... making a dog a sentient being.
I feel like that's the more accurate interpretation.

I'm not sure I follow. are you saying you want to shoot me dead?
or that you know some dogs that are certainly more sentient than Keanu Reeves?

I'm saying that killing a man's dog is not a wise proposition.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: Avengers: End Game
Right, so clearly the snap covered at least intelligent non-human beings across the universe (e.g., not just humans, but aliens and whatnot). That's probably what Black Widow is talking about - this isn't something localized, it's half of everyone everywhere.
Whether dogs, fish, bacteria, plants, etc. get covered by the snap is ultimately up to Thanos, I suppose. But IIRC there were non-intelligent living things in the scenes where we see the snap take effect (at the very least, trees and plants in the Wakanda part), and I don't believe we see any of them vanish, right? Like if 50% of all living things are disappearing, unless the Wakandan trees and plants are all very lucky, we should've seen at least one of them disappear. Which would indicate at the snap is not covering "all living things", but that Thanos drew a line somewhere (most likely at fully self-aware life).

Animals were absolutely, 100% including, even the sentient, non-sapient varieties. Kevin Feige confirmed it. Half of all puppies, kittens, cockroaches, and pink winged alien elephants. And half of Rocket, because there is only one of him.

Re: Avengers: End Game
Interesting. Though that raises the question - when Thanos is eliminating "half of all living things", are we talking a giant pool of every living being, or does each pool get divided in half? Like, is it half of humans, half of dogs, half of cats, etc., or is it (humans + cats + dogs) / 2? Because if it's the latter, a lot of the lives are going to wind up being fruit flies, mosquitoes, ants, etc., such that the human / intelligent loss would probably wind up being considerably less than half.
