My guess is it was done in ignorance. Like some people didn’t realize they could ?
I am sure the correct answers are much more involved than simply ignorance.
If the GA electorate is anything like what I witnessed in SC, I would bet my a lot that a significant percentage were unaware they could vote for both.
When I added the votes up this morning, the difference in the two races was 2 votes (it's less than 100 right now). So you'll have to explain why you think that people are unaware they could vote for both.

It's interesting that the Georgia runoffs ended up here. I have a feeling this thread is going to get confusing when the certification begins later.

Speaking of which, what time does the certification shitshow begin? I’ve heard both noon and 1pm ET.

It starts at 1pm, or at least should.

Trump is allegedly speaking at 11am in Georgia. I'm sure it's going to be an awesome warm up act.

Decision Desk is calling it for Ossoff. They have him ahead by nearly 20,000

Likely not enough to save Perdue, though.
This aligns with my take. While Perdue wasn't exactly a great candidate, the people had voted for him before. They may say he wasn't so bad. Loeffler was a shit show of a candidate who was appointed to her seat. I think it's quite plausible that a fair number of folks decided they were OK with Perdue but not Loeffler.

Trumpers will probably manufacture conspiracies about the Georgia vote, so this is as good a place as any.

Anyone know what the timeline is for when the vote would be certified and when the new Senators would be seated? Obviously the vote counting isn't done yet, and it matters whether the final margin is within automatic recount range (looks like not, but still possible), but curious what the timeline would be.

Credit where credit is due. This guy is a Republican but he refutes Agolf's losing strategy:
Speaking with CNN's Amara Walker on Tuesday evening, Gabriel Sterling [GA election official] said Trump's repeated efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential race in his state needlessly divided the Republican Party, possibly costing them the critical Senate races there.

I did a quick search and it looks like counties have to certify votes by 1/15, then the SoS has to certify by 1/22. Once certified, they can be sworn in. Assume there will be court challenges that may affect those dates.

The thing is I assume that McConnell will be majority leader until Warnock and Ossoff are seated. So if Republicans are able to put off any final victories for months with court challenges and whatnot (IIRC Franken didn't take his seat until summer 2009 due to court challenges), seems like Republicans could effectively lop off a big chunk of Biden's effective presidency.

Just a demagogue literally trying to rile his supporters up to the point of violence, that's all.

I especially loved his lamenting that Barr "changed" because he didn't want to be Trump's "personal attorney" in the DoJ.

The only thing that would save Pence at this point is if he certified Biden's win and then screamed "SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!" before running around the chamber high fiving democratic lawmakers.

Yeah, at no point in that statement does he say anything even remotely resembling the sentiment "eat a bag of dicks". If anything, he's playing it close to the vest and trying to appease Donnie by saying he wants his claims to be examined.

The link you posted may have been the issue. It was from Saturday. A more recent statement from Pence was just released:
"It is my considered judgment that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not."
Is that perhaps what you were referring to?

Oh were you guys not reading the statement from today? The one from today clearly is a fu I need to follow the law. And there's zero chance that Trump didn't know that was going to be sent out.
