Yeah, but watching Belichick lose his shit over something that he would absolutely do, given the chance, was hilarious.

Oh well. They probably had only a 5% chance to beat Kansas City, and a 1% chance to beat Baltimore.

I was surprised they did the lateral lateral lateral thing. I assumed they'd down it and try a hail mary (with hope for a PI).

Yeah, me too. Though I'm not sure I've ever seen them call a PI on a hail mary - that'd be pretty ballsy.EvilHomer3k wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 1:10 am I was surprised they did the lateral lateral lateral thing. I assumed they'd down it and try a hail mary (with hope for a PI).

I might be wrong on this but I don't think it's possible for Brady and those receivers to pull off a hail mary from that far back. Best case scenario the receiver catches it and he's still about 20 yards from the end zone. They needed a td, not a field goal, so that wouldn't be good enough.

New Orleans gets screwed by no pass interference call in the playoffs again? They likely wouldn’t have changed the call, but how do they not even review that??

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
I feel bad for #7 and #87 on the Saints. I'm not a Saints fan but those two guys impressed the hell out of me with how motivated they were to win this game. They made a lot of the Vikings players look dead in comparison.
At the end there I'm glad there was no offensive pass interference call. The defender was engaging the receiver, the defender himself never even looked for the ball, so he was essentially doing the same thing as the receiver. Cousins delivered big at the end when the stress was on, that's a good sign for him going forward in the playoffs.

Final play. Vikings threw to corner of end zone. Tight end pushed off before making the catch.
I'm not saying we would have won the game, but that should not have been a touchdown.

From the original angle it could not be seen, it appeared the defender hesitated. Now we know why - he was busy shoving that hand away.

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
PI should be called consistently throughout the game. The refs didn’t call anything remotely like that in the rest of the game, nor the holding the NO DB initiated, so the no call was the right call. It was an excellently reffed game, and the NO whingers carrying over last year’s bad call need to get over it. The Saints didn’t play well and didn’t deserve to win this game.

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
That Twitter clip shows the defender is trying to interfere with the receiver just as much as the receiver is trying to create space. You're not allowed to face guard receivers. That's why DBs usually make a token effort to look back for the ball as they grab the receiver, to make it look like they were playing for the ball.
The Rams interference was on a completely different level, that was all on the defensive player.

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
Yeah, it was the right call. There was hand fighting on both sides and there is evidence of holding, defensive pass interference, and offensive pass interference. But it's minor on both sides. The video Isgrimnur posted shows only one angle and is cropped to only show one part of the play (and to get views). Prior to that you can see his arm being grabbed and he's being held while the defender doesn't turn around/know where the ball is at all. The play was reviewed and they found that none of the contact rose to the level of a foul.Ænima wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 7:14 pm PI should be called consistently throughout the game. Yeah, it ended the game for the Saints. Yes, there is some controversy there. But honestly, it's the right no-call if you look at it objectively.

Bullshit dirty hit by Clowney took out Wentz 6 minutes into the game. Can’t believe that didn’t draw a flag or even a mention from the NBC announcers. Such a disappointing end to a disappointing season for the Eagles.

They mentioned the hit several times, even saying that in the old days Wentz would have gone right back out and Collinsworth remembering hits like that that he got in his playing days. Yeah I was sorry to see that as well.

Link to the NFL Video Rulebook on Offensive Pass Interference.
The very first example of offensive pass interference, at 35 seconds in the video, is pushing or shoving off of the defender to create separation in an effort to catch the pass.

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
Incorrect. The rules specifically allow face guarding.
They look back because the contact rules are different if you are "playing the ball" versus playing the receiver. If you can make the case that the contact was due to going for the ball, it's not a penalty. If you make the same contact and never even try for the ball, it's a penalty. That's why DBs usually make a token effort to look back for the ball as they grab the receiver, to make it look like they were playing for the ball.

I went an impressive 0-4 on the wildcard round. Next round all home teams are heavily favored. Anyone predict an upset? I will go with:
Seahawks over Packers
Seahawks over Packers

I agree with that. What's the evidence that the Packers are better than the Seahawks?
Seahawks over Packers
Chiefs over Texans
Ravens over Titans
49ers over Vikings
Otherwise I think it's pretty likely that the other home teams will win. Not even sure what the second most likely upset would be. Maybe Texans over Chiefs given Deshaun Watson and Andy Reid's tendency to blow playoff games?

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season
Should be easy to fix. If there are two or more consecutive pre-snap penalties, the other team has the option to keep the clock running or to stop it. It was clever by Vrabel, but boring as hell for a non-invested fan.

Re: NFL 2019 - 20 Season with Playoffs
Packers over Seahawks - Packers D has been impressive. Seahawks are having some trouble running.
Chiefs over Texans - Chiefs are simply too good on offense. Texans didn't look good against Buffalo.
Ravens over Titans - I don't think this will be close. Ravens will get out to an early lead and coast from there.
49ers over Vikings - I honestly think the 49ers are overrated and the Vikings are more talented on offense and defense but don't have the coaching needed to win.
