Tbh, they've been playing a much tougher schedule, and their defense matches up much better with pocket passers. Injuries have taken their toll as well. The absence of Dee Ford is palpable. LB's and Tartt being out not helping either.

Winning the division will be key, but their best path is playing GB and Noah's avoiding Russell Wilson.

Brees and Goff are pocket passers and they couldn't get to them. Rams remembered how it was in the first week and saw how the niners got chewed up by QB's who can run. They adjusted this game to make Goff mobile and had great success. Teams have noticed. Niner's D is geared for pocket passers, they haven't found an answer for mobile QB's.

too bad the niners didn't show up against the Falcons after the Seahawks losing today against the Cardinals. This weekend we'd take the division. Now our fate will be decided next week in very hostile territory and I don't see a good outcome

It probably won't happen, but I hope the Bears can pull one out tonight. The only reason for them to play is to make the Raider's draft pick less awesome though, I don't know how that resonates in terms of a rallying cry.

We hear about the QB's failings, but what happened to Mack? I've watched a couple of Bears games and he's rarely mentioned.

Akiem Hicks was injured most of the year, allowing teams to devote more resources into stopping him I guess. The defense as a whole pretty much sucked this year, losing the DC and starting over with a new guy will do that I guess.

Today was a good day in the NFL:

Cowboys eliminated
Raiders eliminated
Pats lose first round bye
Jags win a meaningless game to surge behind the Chargers in the draft

Prior to this season I had read about how Winston, on the Bucs, was erratic. I had seen some highlight videos by that time but nothing stood out. He seemed to play good and they'd win, he'd have an off day and they'd lose, same as with any QB. Then this year I started paying more attention. I started watching Tampa Bay game highlights on Youtube. WTF? Inconsistent or erratic don't even begin to describe it. He threw a pick six, in overtime, to lose the game. 30td/30int for the year, a first in the league. Also first to throw 7 pick sixes in a season. 7!

Thirty touchdown passes, that's enough to make me think he's not a QB a team can afford to let go. Then you look at the interceptions and you think how can you keep this QB? I don't remember seeing any quarterback that had such a wild disparity in performance. You can watch and see him do amazing things AND crazy dumb things...in one game.

A rare 30-30 QB. 30 TD passes and 30 INT's. Probably more than that as he had that before todays game I think.

Seahawks could have brought the house down if they had just given it to Lynch on a dive at second and goal, piss poor clock management. But Seahawks at Philly should be a great game.

The obvious answer is to get in hard work on the INT's, but some players don't want to listen and maybe he's one of them.

When I first heard of his issues I put it on the coaching, because their job is to correct him on his errors. But when I started watching the highlights what I saw him do is not the blame of poor coaching. His last pick six, take a look at it. That was a horrible throw, if it was even worth throwing in the first place. It's in overtime, on his side of the field, and he lobs up a dead duck. I don't think he's not listening, I think he can't control himself. He's seeing something, or getting ideas, in that moment and acts on it. All the coaching, practice, and game planning goes out the window.

Self-control, AKA discipline, can be taught. If he's not getting taught that's on the coaching as well as himself.

His current coach is considered a QB guru, so maybe it isn't a question of coaching. I have always though Winston was one of those QB's who when he is on is very good but he just doesn't see the defenses that well. He was that way in college as well.

Yes that's what I mean. He's not listening/absorbing the coaching. He appears to want to QB 'his way' and that leads to INT's and pick 6's. Too bad, he clearly has skill.

Predictions:

Texans over Bills
Patriots over Titans
Saints over Vikings
Seahawks over Eagles

Not breaking the bank on any of these predictions, I suppose. Honestly I don't think an upset on any of these is that unlikely. Unfortunately I think the most likely upset right now would be Titans over Patriots. As it is I'm predicting an ugly Patriots win - probably something like Patriots 20, Titans 17, followed by the Patriots getting absolutely annihilated in Arrowhead in the divisional round.

I assume that Stessier is predicting Titans 70, Patriots 0.

I think the Texans' fate depends on Will Fuller being healthy. They are a completely different team offensively when he plays. If he's not playing (or gets injured early, which seems to happen pretty often), I can see the Bills pulling the upset.

Seattle hasn't looked great in the last two days, so it's possible the Eagles can win. But the Eagles are just so banged up I think it might be hard for them to score enough.

I mean, have you watched any of the games this year? I don't understand how anyone is picking the Patriots. Tannenhill is good and is in a good system for him. Derrick Henry has been a beast over the second half. Their defense is decent enough. The Patriots' defense has been exposed by good game plans and patient QB-ing. Their offense is non-existent after the first drive in every game. I'm pretty sure Edelman is playing with a separated shoulder and broken ribs. Brady's elbow is messed up. Cannon is playing some leg or shoulder injury that is seriously slowing him down. This is 2009 all over again - it's not going to be close.

Texans over Bills - Texans are just a more well rounded team. The Bills played an easy schedule beating only one team with a winning record (Titans).

Titans barely over Patriots - Patriots have only beaten two teams with a winning record. The Eagles and the Bills. Both of whom had cupcake schedules (playing the same teams as the Pats). They've beaten a few playoff hopefuls in Pittsburgh and Dallas. The rest of the teams they've beaten are the worst teams in the NFL (Dolphins, Jets, Redskins, Giants, Bengals, Browns). Honestly, the only good teams they played this year were the Chiefs, Texans, and Ravens and they lost to all three. Lucky for them the Titans aren't very good either but they're playing well right now and the Pats just lost to the Dolphins.

Saints over Vikings - If Cook is at full strength the Vikings have a chance. If not this will be a rout.

Seahawks over Eagles - The Eagles barely made the playoffs even with an easy schedule and Seattle already beat them once this year.

The defense is still very good, and the Titans are good but not great. Overall this feels like a game that has to be sweated out, and where the Patriots will be behind fairly late, but which they'll pull out in the end. I will admit that this is like a 55% prediction, so I would be far from shocked if the Titans win this.

The Patriots defense is good enough to get a win or two on their own. I also predict the Bills getting a road win, although the Texans have a tendency to beat teams they should lose to and lose to teams they should beat.

Not if Tannehill throws more passes to the NE defense like that last one. But the Titans D shut that drive down so opportunity lost.
