And in the "Things I didn't know Department"
In 2017, NFL shortened overtime from 15 minutes to 10 minutes for preseason and regular season games with the intent of reducing the risk of injury, despite concerns that this would lead to more ties.
They should take a page out of football and go to a PAT shootout to determine the winner.

Maybe Jason Hanson could come out of retirement!

Wow! What an ending to the Texans/Saints game. I didn't think Brees had it in him! (Nor did I think the 58 yd kick would look so easy). Crazy, just crazy.

Well then! Carr looking like the Carr of old, although I can't figure out if the Raiders are actually good or the Broncos just that bad

I think that was the news conference from Tuesday addressing a situation that came out early Monday morning. News travels slowly in your neck of the woods. :P

I don't know what to think about this. Particularly if they suspend him before they talk to the woman.

I know you don't have these answers, but how long do they suspend him for? Under the conduct policy, it would be like 6 games, right? It can't be unlimited.

Then there is the fact that it is a civil case and I believe there is no police report. Will all civil complaints be treated like this in the future? If more bad stuff comes out during the trial, do they get to suspend him again? They can't suspend him until the conclusion of the case, it's likely to last years if it is litigated. What if he settles without admitting anything? If they haven't suspended him, would they try at that point? And the standard for a civil case is lower than a criminal one, right? Isn't it "a preponderance of the evidence"? So if he loses at trial, do they suspend him based on what is likely to have happened?

This is why the NFL should get out of the investigation/conduct punishment business. They suck at it.

From what I read I guess I'm not sure it would technically be a 'suspension'. Sounded a bit like "go away while we investigate this."

He might agree to that as long as he is paid. But it will make his $5 mil in incentives impossible to reach, so I'd bet he'll fight it.

Goodell specifically set up the Commissioner's Exempt List for these sorts of situations. I believe the player gets paid while on that list and while the NFL investigates, but he can't have contact with the team. And while I don't think there's any record of AB's alleged conduct being reported to the police, the emails the accuser has from AB are pretty damning (and not just for the excessive use of exclamation points).

Brown has had a busy year.
New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown has been accused of sexually assaulting his former trainer, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Southern District of Florida.

USA TODAY Sports tracks Brown's legal incidents off the field in the past year via lawsuits and public record:

This is such a weird system that we've stumbled into in these situations. Shouldn't the people investigating this be...the police?

I downgraded my Comcast service over the summer, and just now realized I don’t have NFL Network anymore,

Oh well, wasn’t worth the extra $40/month they wanted for the upgraded sports package.

Thanks (and to Isg who PM'd me a few streaming options as well).

Not sure even $20-25 a month is worth it, as I really don't watch much NFL these days. I do like having football on in the background, but generally don't get grumpy unless lack of a channel affects my college football access.

AT&T Uverse also dropped NFL Network. Don't really care unless the Chargers play on Thursday. Then I suppose I could go to a sports bar.

Are the Chargers your local team? I'm pretty sure the Bears get a local TV simulcast when they plan on the NFL Network.

Here is the recipe for losing to the Lions:

Two missed short field goals.
Fumble on first and goal.
Interception in their endzone in the final minute.

I am under the impression the recipe was be on the road week 2 and with a scad of your starers on IR and another half dozen players inactive at game time after the Lions had just lost to tied a horrible team with a QB playing his first game in the NFL.

Having caught the last seven minutes of Lions week 1, I didn't bother watching. I assumed we'd come in heavy favorites, home game, embarrassing defeat tie, west coast team flying in beat up for an early game. I also assumed we would hang our hats on a strong defense, get to the red zone and kick field goals to either make it a close win or a close loss. Reading the drive summaries, I got the result right but the cause wrong.

I turned it off in disgust after the missed XP was turned into a made 2-point conversion following a dumb penalty. Sure was surprised they had time to pull out a winning field goal.

The clock ran out in real time but the Bears did, amazingly, get the TO off in time with 1 second remaining.

niners manhandled the bengals. The running game was impressive, and some very good design plays just made the game fun to watch. Jimmy G looked comfortable, our pass rush is finally effective. Sucks that Staley broke his fibula and is out 6-8 weeks.
