I am putting them on my list!
Just another vote for the Expanse books. They are outstanding, and even better than the show (which is also outstanding!).

I haven't seen the show, but I'm on Book 6 in the series and am really enjoying them.

You should watch the show while waiting for the last book - it is top shelf.

That was the plan (finish all the current books then watch the show)! :)

Good plan!

I only occasionally peek into this thread because I'm reading the books and want to avoid spoilers. I've seen the first two seasons, though, and they're excellent hard SF.

I'm not using Google because I don't want to spoil anything. How many books does the TV show cover? I'm on Book 6 and am wondering how far it is safe to watch.

The TV show through season 4 gets nowhere near book 6.

I've just started Season 2. It's a good series, but deviates enough from the books to be annoying as I've just read them. Almost wish I had seen the show first, then read the books. Still fun, though.

Same here! One of my all-time favorite series. And Season 5 is going to pack a punch if it follows the content of the next books where Season 4 left off. I can't wait.

As crazy as the first four seasons may have seemed, the next season is where the bigger events really kick into high gear. People who haven't read the books have no idea what's on the horizon...and it's one hell of a story.

The Expanse has been renewed for Season 6. It will be the last season, and Cas Anvar won't be back for that season.

Interesting. Will they write him out of the story, or keep the character with a different actor?

How can they know they will wrap things up in one season when they haven't seen the last book? Kinda sounds like they are going to eliminate a lot of stuff from the last couple books.

I'm one episode from the end of Season 2 and my biggest gripe is that they changed many characters' motivations. I get adding events or other characters, but changing motivations changes who they are. Still a good show... But the books are better. :D

When you are cancelled but are given one final season, what fo you suggest they do? You have to go with what you have. And it’s been done before - GOT had to do the same.

Isn't the last book due out in the spring? If so, they've likely seen it or at least the out line.

The issue isn't so much that they haven't seen it as that they have to cover 4+ books in two short seasons. Much will by necessity be axed.

They could always just
Spoiler:
skip the Laconia storyline and end things before the time jump.

That is what I'm expecting (hoping?) they have decided.
Spoiler:
Book 6 does wrap up a decent number of things. Book 7-8 (and I assume 9 when done) does almost feel like a whole new story (with familiar threads), and if interest is waning at Amazon, I'm hopefully that S6 can provide for a good closure to a great series.

It may be that everyones contracts are running out and shooting another season would just cost that much more. Or they want to move on. Shows end for a variety of reasons. GoT wasn't canceled so much as they ran out of time.

Streaming service goals. Netflix wants each show for a few good seasons because of getting new subscribers. Thats a factor here too

I watched the first ep over lunch today and was very pleased.

Also, is it me or did they step up the effects budget some more this season? Tycho Station has never looked better or more detailed than it did in that episode.
