Movie Trailers thread

Post by Moliere »

For trailers that don't necessarily need their own thread.

I second all the YouTube comments about how good it is to see Johnny Depp do something besides Captain Jack Sparrow and Tim Burton movies.

He gives a good performance in that trailer, but the makeup is just a bit too obvious and pulls me out of it.

Is it me, or did that scene just seem like a rewrite of Joe Pesci's scene in Goodfellas (but not as good)?

So he's playing Whitey Ford? Who knew Ford could get so dark?

It's not just you. That scene is starting to become a cliche. I saw a similar "gag" used in Boardwalk Empire recently.

And yeah, I agree about the makeup. I'm just not buying it. Reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio's horrible J Edgar Hoover makeup.

Saw the trailer in the theater before Ex Machina. I am intrigued.

I don't really understand making a modern movie based on an '80s girl-centric cartoon. For guys, yeah, I understand nostalgia for Ninja Turtles and Transformers. But us guys are immature and never grow up. :D

Just anecdotally, I can tell you my wife doesn't give two craps about the stuff she used to play with/watch as a kid, other than an amused "Oh I used to have that" sort of thing. Meanwhile I can still tell you the names of all the Transformers and still go look at them whenever I'm in the toy store.

I don't see that same sort of nostalgia driving 40-year old moms to the theater. I guess they're counting on them to drag their daughters along?

I don't know that the mothers will need to drag the mothers along. They made a sequel to Pitch Perfect and shows like Glee are totally things. Retro is to get the Moms to buy tickets, but I don't think they need them to drag the daughters.

Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp

Technically a Netflix mini-series and not a movie, but whatever. It is apparently a prequel, yet starring the same actors playing the same roles. I... don't know what to think.

It's a little too Inception for my tastes. I don't doubt that I'll enjoy it like I've enjoyed every Bond movie, but the giant secret inside a big secret inside a small secret is stretching the balloon too much.
