In other games:

Zenn7 - I felt like I had to try for Russia even with all those fighters. Your AAA took down two of my attacking planes, but even if it hadn't I don't think I'd have won. Needed more INF fodder.

El Guapo - US Pacific fleet is dead but it's a hollow victory. I don't see that game going my way on either front.
Yeah, things are looking pretty good for the Allies right now. The Pacific fleet isn't super necessary with the British (with some Soviet help) rolling back the Japanese in China.

I'm feeling pretty good about the European theatre right now. I'm fairly concerned about the Pacific / East Asia, though.
as well you should be after that debacle in the Philippines. Japan's version of the battle of Midway.
Very glad Japan is getting good rolls. Germany just lost a battleship to a destroyer (I did at least manage to hit him on the second round and take him with me).

The allies should tremble in Europe as Germany props up more cardboard units to oppose them! (must be cardboard, real units would have to fight better). :P

Heh, that's awesome (for me). I had planned to destroy that battleship via a counterattack with a destroyer + aircraft, but....I guess that's all set now.

Well, if it helps, the defenders of Italy put up a hell of a fight. 4 hits on 5 2+ rolls.

The British defending India pulled off a similar feat. 4 of 7 hits rolling for a 2 on the first round of combat and 2 of 3 hits on the second round. Ultimately they lost, but it was costly.

What's going on with El Guapo's turn? USA has been in Non-Combat moves since early this morning.

Yeah, Germany was really counting on Japan to virtually single-handedly win the war while we imitated the usual Russia play format rather than the standard German format.

In my defense, I have no idea how bad my strategy might or might not have been, RNG was VERY VERY unfavorable to me for the first few rounds.

*************************
I don't like the German bomber being moved in the tournament rules. I have yet to play a game where Russia didn't take it out on turn 1. I also don't like that they have like 6 fighters and 1 bomber. WTH - this is obviously after the RAF won the air Battle for Britain and smashed the Luftwaffe. :(

On the matter of RNG, anyone considered trying a low luck game?

In my game with Redfive - the Japanese navy just got sunk! Only cost the US 2 subs - for 1 BB, 1 AC, 2 subs, 1 cruiser and 2 fighters (I think there was a transport - bonus!).

Now if Russia can just hold on another turn... (they've got good odds with 6 fighters there).

Wow, sounds like some nice rolls on that one. Would have thought they'd give a better accounting than that.

My rolls were decent, but more helpful (for me), your rolls SUCKED (I recommend you stop sending them to Germany in our other game for training). 2 hits in round 1, 1 hit in round 2 for you. Think your subs and fighters died in round 1. Only lasted 2 rounds.

You only have the UK left to take in our Global Domination game. All the allies have forfeited except for me. I'd like to forfeit, however, if you want the satisfaction of wiping out the UK, I'll stick around for you.

But I am going out of town Saturday morning and won't be back until Monday (I can get turns in Saturday morning, not again until Monday afternoon/evening likely).

Losing your last territory capable of producing units does a lot to change one's mind in my experience. :p

Forfeited. Hail the conquering Japanese and their German lackeys. FYI Germany... there's about to be a new master race in that world, and it ain't yours! :p

In El Guapo's game, Germany and Japan are ready to concede but are willing to play it out if the Allies would prefer. Well done!

Started an online game earlier this week and hadn't thought out that I might not finish before I leave today. We were in a somewhat close game, think I was going to pull it out, but not certain.

It was an odd game, Germany stacked most/all their starting tanks with a bunch of infantry. Took 1 territory every turn with that stack. He didn't drive to Russia though so Russia just keeps taking empty territories (once in a blue moon attacking weak ones). Missing Kralia, but have 2-3 starting German territories still. He does have most/all of Africa though.

He spent large amounts of money building a navy in the Baltic. The UK has them bottled in but has not been able to outbuild them to sink them (stalemate).

Japan is conquering islands (I did my usual UK opening and took Borneo (?) and West Indies. He took them back. Build a factory on one of the 4 point islands (the one where his fleet starts). Haven't been able to overcome his fleet with the US fleet. He just took India finally (think we were on about turn 5 or 6).

Finally realized I needed to stop focusing the US on the Pacific and just more or less leave Japan be, have the US focus on Germany, help the UK and Russia out. While the UK is arms racing the German fleet, the US could be sending troops over and taking out Germany. Then we could focus on Africa. Especially since Russia has almost as much power as they do at the start of the game.

Fortunately, he just forfeited.

Yeah, I'm on the same page. I don't think the Axis are doomed yet either - depends somewhat on whether the Allies can get to Berlin before the Japanese can get to Moscow (which I think we can, just not sure).

But if you want to resign, that's fine too.

A disaster for Russia in China. 6 Infantry, 1 tank, 2 planes vs 2 infantry and 3 tanks. None of my soldiers scored a hit, rolled all 4, 5, 6's, was left with 1 tank and 1 plane against 2 tanks after 2 rounds, I meant to retreat and pressed the button one too many times and accidentally pressed the attack, I hit both times the next round and so did he. I did not want to lose my planes. Damn this game needs an undo button when you accidentally press the attack.

France has been re-unliberated! Dice rolls were fairly even -8 2's and 4 2's and a 4 - attackers took 3 rounds over which the defenders got 3 hits in.

Moscow has finally fallen in my game with Zenn7. That was touch and go...soo many fighters in Moscow. I just needed a round where my first salvo could get through to the fighters and that finally happened. And not a turn too soon because I would have been in a world of hurt in the Fatherland. It is still a fight but I think Germany is going to prevail.

I'll happily eat crow if the allies can pull it off though.

Think you had some pretty danged good luck there. Thought they'd hold out til the UK turn. Then I was going to put 2 more fighters there to hold out through the Japanese turn. Then I didn't figure you were going to be able to put out enough to really continue w/ the UK and US moving in.

But I did buy at least 1 more turn to turn the tide.

Ok - *now* I would say that the Axis are doomed.

Sort of funny how the UK / US (mainly the UK) are liberating Europe from east to west. The Warsaw Pact (I guess the Bucharest Pact) is going to be much smaller in this timeline.

Berlin ran into a bit of an issue however. I don't see how you hold out until I get there, but try!
Ok - *now* I would say that the Axis are doomed.

Sort of funny how the UK / US (mainly the UK) are liberating Europe from east to west. The Warsaw Pact (I guess the Bucharest Pact) is going to be much smaller in this timeline.
Russians have reinforced Berlin, hoping to hold off the last desperate attack by the Germans, and fortified the eastern Japanese front.

Germany has spent the last of their card board soldiers wiping out most of the Russian reinforcements to Berlin (the UK units that are there remain unscathed). If Japan pulls this one off, I think we all have to bow down to Steisser as either the master of this game or the luckiest player ever. :)

No offense to Steisser, but I lack faith that he's quite that amazing or lucky (if only Germany could have held out a little longer, he might have had a chance). Partner - we ready to forfeit? (if not, I will continue to dutifully pass through my turns).

Maybe you left enough for me to claim East Germany.

And it looks like game over as soon as UK walks into France. Japan no longer has transports in range of the Philippines to retake the victory location.

Sorry to hold it up, I missed turn(s) yesterday and I'll get them done as soon as I get home from work today.

I was ready before and have done nothing to change my opinion. We can wait until this round finishes so everyone gets their last move to see just how bad it would have been.
