Doom Eternal

Post by stimpy »

Wow....no love for this at all, huh?
I've started it and overall it's been very....Doomy.
Just don't recall Doom ever being a platform jumper. This aint Tomb Raider, folks.
I just wanna shoot shit.

I didn't see the jumpitis in the video, probably a time padding. But not interested at that price, perhaps at a steep discount.

I bought it, played for about 40 minutes, realized it stressed me out and put me on edge, refunded it.

Will likely go back to it at a more sane time.

I watched a few review videos and what put me off was the platform jumping. I just want to run around and shoot stuff. There were lots of things like weapons upgrades, and needing to do things like glory kills to get health back...too much thinking. I just want to run around and shoot stuff.

I'm not in to that Melee stuff, I just want to shoot, no jumping either.

I should have searched for this thread before purchasing. Waaaaay to much Super Mario jumping in this; was not expecting it at all. Not a fan. Not even a little.

EDIT: I'm legitimately at a part right now where I need to jump from platform to platform while fireballs on chains swing around to make things difficult. Really?
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Indeed, the Worth A Buy bloke aptly summed this up in his review:

"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." — P. J. O'Rourke

That is where I bailed.
The platforming was somewhat tolerable before that.
Still annoying, but tolerable.
That section?

I didn't find it terribly difficult, but I did find the traversal got tedious after a while. I still enjoyed the game on the whole.

All I wanted was Doom on Earth. They didn't have to add all the extra shit.

Ditto. Even free (it was on gamepass for a while, if not still) I hated it for that shit.
