Playing Rogue Trooper Redux. I'm at the final big boss fight and it's a bit of... WTF. He doesn't fight. He just hides behind a big shield and sics his minions on me, and they are "endless". I have to hack three consoles to extend the bridges, blow up the generators, to disable the shields. THEN I can kill him. Except I get overwhelmed when the enemy drops "decapitators", basically floating seeker mines I can't really dodge. Usually they were dropped far enough away that I can shoot them. But with enemies chasing me down left and right, there's no room to run and they kill me. WTF. I've died like 10 times at the exact same spot.

I guess I was playing on normal? I probably should have picked "easy". Any way, i downloaded a trainer (and had to disable Windows Defender, blocking the downloads), and enabled that, and finished the mission in a few minutes.

Is there no place to see your games listed in the webpage for Steam like you can in the desktop app?

Decided to jump back into NFS: Payback and did a couple missions, which are getting almost RIDICULOUSLY hard, so much so, I basically had to "cheat" a little to win. Had the boss race against Holtzman, leader of "Hazard Company", whose cars are enhanced by the bad guys, "The House". Let's just say that car was doing things it shouldn't be able to, like having a truck drift offroad like it's on asphalt, swing directions almost instantly. The final final race was supposed to be racing for 4 laps around this construction site. Except this guy has such acceleration (nitro?) that he was able to blast past me as I slow for corners, and I was never able to make up the time. So I kinda cheat... I bumped him off course when he tries to get past me. And I think it worked the third time when he got stuck in something and I was able to remain in 1st despite several oops moments. Also spent all my remaining "crates" on upgrades.

The idea is to get 'speed cards' which are basically representations of the six components in the vehicle: block, head, ECU, turbo, gearbox, exhaust. Each product further has "manufacturer" and "bonus perks" (up to 3 per card). Each of the six manufacturers specializes in something (like accel, speed, jump, etc.) and if you can put 3 cards of the same manufacturer on the vehicle you get a small bonus (and 6 means even bigger bonus). As you win events and get XP and fulfill daily goals, you get "base shipments", which are basically loot crates that contain vanity items as well as "parts tokens" that can be converted to speed cards, plus some "dollars" that are used as in-game currency used to buy speed cards from parts shops, as well as cars from dealerships.

Most cars can be bought from dealerships, but the game rewards a bit of exploration by leaving "derelicts" around the desert. Each derelict (and 4 parts) had to be recovered for Rav to rebuilt it into a serious competitor, but you have to choose a class... drag, race, drift, offroad, runner, etc. Most clubs you beat early on will give you a location to the derelict and you probably have to make a jump to collect it. Then do similar things to find the aprts, which are scattered all over the map and you're given vague map hints to find them. If you get close, you get an indicator, but NOT direction, merely proximity. I've already assembled 4 derelicts (Buick Grand National, 65 Mustang, Chevy S-10 flareside, and Nissan 280Z) I already have location to a VW Bug and a .57 Chevy. Apparently, the derelicts are the most upgradeable vehicles.

EDIT: Turns out, the derelicts are the most VISUALLY customizable vehicles. The derelicts allow you to buy a "superbuild" preset which is a set of visual mods that make the vehicle look really good, and given that each derelict can be built to one of 5 classes, there are five super-builds per vehicle, and each can be further visually modded.

Performance-wise, the cards top out at level 18. And that'll give you a vehicle that has a performance level of the high 300's, almost 400. That means 0-60 in about 2 seconds, and top speed in excess of 200 mph.

EDIT2: Just beat the Diamond Block (House-backed) drag racers. Had to upgrade the vehicle to do it though, and even then that just means I had to use nitro and out-accelerate the guy as he's faster off the line than I am.

Just built the 280Z to super-build, but not enough cards to make it really special yet. My other "race class" vehicle is the Buick Grand National.

Correction: it's actually a 240Z, not a 280Z. And it's been upgraded to 0-60 in 1.9 sec, and top speed of 225 mph. Just beat "One percent Club" so it's about to appear in Outlaw Rush, which I assume would be Chapter 5, the climax and finale. I am thinking about buying one of those hypercars and upgrade that, but it'd be much much more fun winning the race in the 240Z, wouldn't it? I got a full body kit on it (cosmetic though) with extra wide fenders and big tires and even a light-bar on top plus LED light upgrades. :D Rating is 389 or so.

Just won Outlaw Rush with the 3 race half elimination. First is a race with 7 other vehicles, and it turned out to be relatively easy, even when extra enforcers showed up, one of the clubs I've defeated before. I've upgraded my 240Z to ranking 399, which is the max possible. And their vehicles can't make the turn, even as they managed to match me in acceleration. One of them outright crashed.

Second leg was offroad, and a good number of cops showed up. The problem was they basically shove me this and that, even though I was in a lifted F100 truck and they're in... Corvettes? But they are fast offroad too. Hahaha. Cheaters. I think I lost once, when they managed to shove me into a pile of rocks, but 2nd attempt was successful, when the police interference allowed other racers to catch up, but I still outran them and won, albeit by almost no margin.

Thrid leg was one-on-one against the baddie Lena Navarro, in a McLaren P1, while I was back in my 240Z, albeit uber-upgraded. And despite she achieved an early lead, I passed her before 1/4 point, and basically left her behind.

I guess I can go after a few achievements, but what's the point? There's a DLC that adds "speedcross" event, which I assume is some sort of offroad circuit thing that resembles rallycross. And there's a car pack that added a bunch of other cars, but again, what's the point?

Still, I paid like $5 for it, and it gave me 18 hours of entertainment. Worth it, even if I don't buy any more DLCs.

Since you are talking about Need for Speed, I will add my thoughts about the new release, Need for Speed: Heat. I subbed to Origin Access Premier for a year to play that and the new Star Wars game (coming this week, woo!). On the plus side, it backs off the BS of Payback. No more random loot for car upgrades! You buy cars and parts like a normal racing game in this one, with one twist. There are days races and night races. Day races get you cash that you need to buy cars and parts. Night races get you Reputation. Rep levels gate cars and upgrades you can purchase as well as the story missions. Making things more interesting, night races have a risk v reward system. Night races are illegal and the cops are looking for you. At the end of the night you get the rep you have earned multiplied by the heat level you reached over the course of the night. Completing events and messing with cops bumps your heat and increases the police efforts to stop you. If you are caught, you lose your multiplier and lose some money to a fine.

I finished the story already and it consisted of maybe 7 or 8 missions. It took about 10 hours. It was a bit shorter than you might expect because the origin subscription plan gives you the Deluxe Edition which gives you some free cars that are gated behind rep levels. because of that I never had to buy a car. The top end car (Corvette) is plenty to finish the story with ease. Not that it would matter much. Money is pretty easy to come by.

I'm glad I didn't pay $60 for it. I mean yeah, technically I paid $100, but I also get to play Fallen Order and whatever else origin releases this year that catches my eye.

I keep thinking of replaying Fallout 4 but then I force myself to remember I finished it ALL. I did everything. I know where it all is. I know the map back and forth. Theres nothing there for me to have fun with. Looking at my LAST PLAYED date on Steam is says March 2016 but I swear it feels like I played it late last year.

I need to play an RPG argh.....................

Not an RPG but is Kane and Lynch 2 any good single player? It looks like Max Payne with a AI buddy from the videos on the Steam store. Its in my collection it seems. Never played it.

Yeah, that's pretty much what it is. It's been a while since I've played it (on my older crappier PC) but it's basically a shooter experience, without the bullet-time schtick from Max Payne.

Went back and played a bit more Van Helsing Final Cut "Adventure Map", which is basically random mission generator to allow you to grind your way to level 100. There are 11 mission types with some imagination, and random factors. Like random "artillery" rain on you, and random "blade storm" around the map, "no Katarina", "no potions", and so. The missions recycle old maps for new stuff. Some are basic, like "clear groups of monsters", but "chicken run" was cute. Basically, you got turned into a chicken, and only inside the "ward circles" you are normal (and can shoot and stuff). You need to make your way across the map to the last circle and you win. If the monsters get you, you lose. Constructor has minions which, in addition to Katerina, makes for a lot of firepower even without himself. Another was "caravan", where you need to escort a bunch of civilians across the map through gauntlet of monsters, of course. At least one has to stay alive and make it to end of the map.

I am making pretty good leveling. I'm level 82 now (I know I was 75 or so last week), and I got a few more epics, that I've stopped picking up blue items, and basically didn't bother opening chests (too slow). But I am debating whether I actually want to grind my way to level 100.

Maybe I should be playing Grim Dawn instead. or Fallout 4? Or WRC?

Decided to play "Bound by Flame", a game so deep in the discount bin (I knew I found it on Fanatical for less than $5) it should deserve more recognition. Made by "Spiders", the folks that also brought you Technomancer, GreedFall, Of Orcs and Men, and Mars War Logs, Bound by Flame features a story that seems to have been cribbed from several fantasy genres but is actually quite engaging, and the gameplay is a lot deeper than it first seem, if a bit tedious.

Any way, you're just a merc working for mercenary company to protect the temple of the Red Scribes when the Deadwalker army attacked. And somehow, the ritual you're supposed to protect called forth a "demon", which found the closest compatible vessel... You. You have three primary combat stances: heavy (two-handed) warrior stance, dual-wield blade (ranger stance), and pyromancer. As you level up your skills, and improve your equipment, you face various enemies, from shooters/archers to melee combat to large bashers, to huge bosses, each with your own attack rhythm. You have to parry/block, then counter-attack with the right rhythm, use 360 spin moves to attack groups, use fireball or crossbow against some enemies, even explosive traps when called for. Ranger stance is stealthier and allows dodging by jumping back, while warrior stance is more about attack and disrupt (with a kick).

All of your equipment can be upgraded, and better versions can be found by various loot crates and whatnot. In a way, this feels a lot like fantasy version of mars warlogs or such, as it also featured a similar inventory / upgrade system where you gather various combo of raw materials (leather, raw metal, refined metal, bone, etc.) for specific upgrades that fits your combat style.

I'm in "Book 3", where the Elve City had been destroyed and King vanquished, leaving just the Elven prince, while the Demon in my head keeps mumbling about we should just go straight to the WorldHeart and fix it there to destroy the "Ice Lords" ruining everything, but that would mean giving in to the demon, and I guess I don't want him to take over just yet.

Okay, I'm tired of Van Helsing that I do NOT want to play it to L100. The missions are getting monotonous, and enemies are either push-overs or they kill me in an eyeblink that I didn't even have a chance to run or pop a potion. And gear grinding is getting stupid. I've stopped picking up magical items (blue), only rare and epic items, and I have too much gold that I don't bother opening chests and whatnot anymore.

I guess I can probably replay it on a slightly harder difficulty level, but as I've been through the storyline all the way through more than once, it's really "meh" for me.

Bound by Flame is glitching out on me. Some sidequests and stuff can't be completed or the talk options going into an infinite loop, and I can't advance the plot.

Ive just quit Borderlands Pre Sequel right outside the vault as I cannot get past that merc gunship even on easy with legendary weapons. I suck.

Also just deleted Stalker at the Lab. I really loved the game but after playing it a few times and the others this go just wasn't all that fun. It being older and less UI friendly didn't help it. Also Ive played that far and not had a single blowout. May replay Pripyet sometime.

Decided to start with Witcher III. Wow, that's some nice graphics and cutscenes, not quite uncanny valley, but just short of it, that you know it's not real, yet it's real and suggestive enough to not call attention to itself. And I like the combat where Geralt's heavy attacks just slice the opponent in half if it's a kill strike. EDIT: And they are actually separate objects. I sliced a bandit in half, and the upper half fell off a ledge.

I do NOT like the super-detailed bajillion bits of crafting though. Feels way too complicated, esp. when all the names feel half-way made up. And right now I can't even find saltpeter to make some bombs to take out a monster nest. And just how do you get XP in this game? I've went through half the village, and it's still telling me I'm not strong enough to undergo a Witcher mission to hunt down a well monster.

Went back to play DIRT 4 for a bit. Decided to tackle something I've yet to try: Rallycross. Started an RX1600 championship, and actually won 1 st in 2 events and came in 2nd on the third event, thus 1st place in the championship. It's the first time I've tried the track and I thought I did pretty darn well given the circumstances.

Played a few minutes of AIM2:Clan Wars, an old classic from 10-20 years ago. It supports modern resolution just fine, but the interface text is infinitesimally small and there doesn't seem to be any way to scale them up. Must reduce the resolution to make things visible.

Changed resolution on AIM2 to 1280x800, and now the text is visible. And it's kinda weird.... You're in a sorta 3D environment a bit like Descent except the vertical is only via jumping and it's not full 6 degrees of freedom flight. And from what I can gather, it's actually a first-person RTS. The idea is that you need to "convince" other MechMinds (AI players) to join your "clan" by bribing them with EU (energy units), and once you got enough, you add them to a building. Once you got enough into the building, over 55%, that building becomes yours, and once soon the whole sector. You get EU by performing missions, the usual bounty, fedex, and so on.

Clearly, the difficulty comes when enemy clan is busy trying to do the same to your buildings...

Decided it's too different and got started in Fallout 4. Defeated the deathclaw in town (should have just let the deathclaw handle the raiders so I can save my minigun ammo on it, but whatever). Now I'm scrapping all the **** in town trying to build **** all over the place. It *is* quite tedious.

Fallout 4. Met Danse, cleared the ghouls around the station, got the transmitter thingie back from JetLabs, took out a bunch of synths, recovered a ton of laser weapons.

Went back out for Rhys and cleared the subway station.

just got the task from scribe... Go find a specific object and bring it back.

Then Danse has a different assignment for me. And Rhys can always use more help.

My favorite weapon so far is the laser rifle... One shot ghouls and probably 2 shots for tough enemies.

For those who might care, a review of Narcos: Rise of the Cartels has been posted by Strategy Gamer. An excerpt:
It pays to be up-front about this: Narcos is not your typical IP adaptation. The concept of law agents vs criminals is solid, the use of the TV series unique quirks creates a great atmosphere, and the production values are, surprisingly, quite high. Unfortunately, it is also severely undermined by two small design decisions that turn the whole game into an unfortunate slog.

I never did anything with the power armor suits in FO4 other than collect and paint them. I had tons of power cores for them I just didn't care for them. Too slow and noisy. I took them to my main base and displayed them with all different paint schemes. I did have to smack one of my npcs out of a suit once. Idiot. :)

So, back to Stalker. I'm in the Freedom base after having talked to Chef about the Bulldog 6. I hear there's another one of those in the Freedom armory, but where's the building? I've been all around the base and I can't figure out which building it is.

It looks like that is because it's behind a "none shall pass" guard. Though apparently you can still pull it off if you don't mind a bit of "cheating". I found the following youtube video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0B6fz14OkU

Edit: Though depending on how you ally yourself, you may be able to get it later without exploiting.

It might be related to this:

Get A Free Month Of Origin Access By Taking A Step You Should Anyway
Protecting your accounts and private information is more crucial than ever in 2019, and that's led to more companies enforcing stricter login verification practices. To recognize National Cybersecurity Awareness month, EA is offering a nice incentive for its users in October--the company will give a free month of Origin Access Basic to anyone who turns on login verification for their EA account. Considering it'll take you all of 10 seconds to turn on that setting, that's a sweet deal.
The offer ends October 31, and the free month of Origin Access will start on or after November 1. You can get more information on this deal at EA.

I dont know. That is on in my account but I dont recall doing it. Plus it says starts Nov 1 and I just got the email today and it started today it appears.

This is what the email says...

Thank you for redeeming your Origin Access subscription code.

For recurring members, your reoccurring plan will restart immediately when the membership time from the redeemed code has concluded.

I dont know how anyone else would access my account and give me a free month though. But a code activated?

Oh well. Guess I can try BF5, Vampyr, and maybe Anthem..maybe not on that one

It is a code. If you put it in and it's legitimate, it works. If you put it in and it is fake, it won't do anything at all. I can't imagine any scam that would work by entering a code on Origin.

It sounds like a code was activated on his account, not that a code was sent to him. If it was me, I'd log on, change the password and activate one of the multifactor authentication options before whoever used the code tries to do the same.

Turns out it WAS EA after all. They worded their email though to sound like a code was activated on the account. Silly them.

Per the other thread on OO...

Its like Max posted but for some reason they didn't say that and it took longer.

Thanks, but I'm still not sure where that building is. I've kept seeing references to a guard and a chair, but nothing that could actually point me to the actual building itself where that can be located.

Ah. Sorry. Misunderstood. I believe it's in the center of the Freedom base. Let me see if I can dig up a map.

Well Ive tried BF5 and SWBF2. In BF5 all I do is die and cant buy a kill. And with SWBF2 I cant even play it. I get it to run and I choose a class and stuff but cant find a way to actually join a game with people. I played the demo but this is silly.

Thats also a pet peeve of mine now days. Id like a PLAY button that simply threw me into a game . If I want more Ill look for it. Having to clicked 15 times to enter a training area to then choose tons of cards and options THEN join a game is something Ill never enjoy or do..

Okay. I think I'm onto something here. This page links to the leader of Freedom. From the page:
Lukash can be found on the top floor of the main building at the Freedom HQ in the Army Warehouses area.
Click the link to the Army Warehouse page and then scroll down for an annotated map at the bottom. Click on it and then look for the "See full size image" link.

Ok, thanks. I guess I kept going past it because it didn't look like an armory building to me, but it's actually the spot I first considered. There's a guy guarding the door with two other soldiers. I guess I'm going to give up on that route. Thanks anyway.
