Awesome job! I really like the Draugr, love the wood grain look on the shield. The figures seem to have some really nice detail and extra nice touches like the weapons and capes. Still soaking mine in simple green, the Army Painter White primer is not coming off too well, not using that stuff again. I will continue to use the black or brush on but I am done with the white. I have been reading up on airbrush kits, looking at the Badger Patriot 105 with the Zeny Pro 1/5 HP compressor. For the folks that use airbrush do you also use a spray booth?

I use a cheapo Master airbrush. Cost me like $25. it gets the job done. I would say the compressor/tank would be a bigger investment to make. Right now I have a compressor that came as part of a kit and i should upgrade the compressor so it has a tank. Would make the painting a lot less noisy.

Yes, but it's the cheapest I could find. It's four sheets of plastic covered cardboard (think binder covers) with velcro. It folds flat, and sets up into a base with three vertical sides. The main reason I haven't gotten something better (other than money) is space. I don't have a garage, and outside is rarely usable, so I spray in the bedroom. I set the 'booth' on a TV tray, then the whole setup disappears back into the cabinet when I'm done.

Yeah, no booth, just a hunk of cardboard on my workbench.

Does it cause any kind of smell?

No smell from the paint. You do get smells from the thinner/cleaner. I recommend a cleaning pot with filters.

Also, you should use a face mask as well, because it does aerosolize the paint and you really shouldn’t breathe it in.

Yep. The smelly, toxic part of spray paint is the accelerant that allows it to be sprayed. The advantage of airbrushes is that it replaces all that with air pressure. The cleaning pot is a must, as is the ventilator. There aren't any toxic fumes, but you don't want your lungs full of atomized paint, either. Again, though, as soon as the paint falls, it's gone. It doesn't hang around in the air.

Painted my Jaws of the Lion character.

Image

This particular guy was hard: red armor + red horns + ruddy skin makes for very little contrast. I added some gold to the armor and yellow to his horns and tail to create more highlights.

A couple more Death May Die. Down to just two fire vampires. I'm so excited...

Hound of Tindalos

This one was so much fun to paint. Used a combination of contrast paints and regular and I think the mix made it fun.

Nightgaunt

I went all glossy on this one. I may change my mind and dullcoat it, but for now...

I meant to post that I love this, especially the gold edging on the armor. My copy of Jaws of the Lion is coming in August, so great to see what the minis look like.

Last of Death May Die minis painted...LEVEL UP! Heh. I really love how this one turned out and it was fun getting to do some serious wet blending and play with inks.

One of adversaries from the Champions of Hara expansion.

This guy is probably the least interesting of the expansion sculpts, but I still had a really good time painting him. This is my first-ever attempt at wet blending.

Disgusting! It's perfect.

I've also painted that Min Thi Phan figure. It didn't turn out very well -- her glasses were tough. Yours looks really good.

Echo that on both comments - your monster is awesome and Min Thi Phan was a rough figure to paint. You did good work.

Word of advice from your old Uncle Hentzau...those old rattlecans of primer that you have no idea how old they are? Throw ‘me out. Buy a fresh can. It’s not worth the hassle cleaning and repriming after it wrecks a half-dozen Black Seas Brigs.

I picked up these brushes and tried one out today, for just a little bit. My first impression is that it seems to hold so much more paint than the store-brand brushes I have from my FLGS. Much less going back to the palette for more paint. I have no idea why.

You have to get in line - my board gaming buddy is trying to convince me to paint his Massive Darkness stuff. I told him as soon as I finished Altar Quest. And Imperial Assault. And Arena: The Contest. And Etherfields. Bwahahahahaha.

Honestly, all the better. If everything could neatly space itself out so I didn't have to play gray, that would be very thoughtful. Because I just remembered I also need to finish painting Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion. And Oathsworn. And Sword and Sorcery Season 2. For a pile of shame that doesn't even exist yet, it is getting awfully large.
